What is Joint Aid for Dogs?

Written by Zoe Russell, BSc (Hons), ANutr,

Nutrition Officer, Skinner’s

Established as a business in 1971, GWF Nutrition have been producing pet products for over two decades. They are the skillful manufacturers behind Joint Aid for dogs- one of the most comprehensive joint supplement for dogs on the market, developed to support healthy movement and mobility in dogs of all shapes and sizes.

For nearly 14 years, Skinner’s have proudly used Joint Aid in our Field & Trial recipes.

Why choose Joint Aid?

Joint Aid for dogs is a supplement designed to support freedom of movement and mobility in dogs. It not only supports the joints but also the muscles – many joint products don’t offer this benefit!

The supplement provides over 32 active nutraceuticals, as well as a special Oatinol® Delivery System™ to maintain a high rate of nutrient absorption. The recipe is 100% wheat free, and made to a soya and shellfish-free formulation, so can be suited to dogs with dietary sensitivities.

Joint Aid is a highly diverse supplement with 32 active nutraceuticals including calcium, collagen, omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin C and more. Here are just a few of the active nutraceuticals Joint Aid contains and what these clever elements can do:

  • Amino acids: these are the building blocks of protein. Joint Aid contains high levels of arginine, isoleucine, leucine, lysine and valine, all of which are essential amino acids, meaning the body can’t produce them on its own. Amino acids are important for the production of muscle tissue.
  • Calcium: a major component of bones and required for muscle contractions, nerve impulses and more.
  • Collagen: an important structural element in the body’s tissues. It helps gives the tissues tensile strength, firmness and resilience
  • Glucosamine: important for the structural integrity of cartilage, as well as the formation of cartilage, tendons, skin, bone and ligaments.
  • Hyaluronic Acid: Helps with the structural formation of cartilage, also important for supporting and lubricating the joints.
  • Omega 3 fatty acids: these are essential fats, as the body cannot make them itself, so they must be provided by the diet. They support anti-inflammatory mediators, immune health, cognitive function, coat and skin health, and more.
  • Vitamin C: an important vitamin involved in the production of collagen that forms the matrix of connective tissues.

When is it time to see a vet?

Often dogs will hide pain until it becomes quite severe. Therefore if your dog is in visible discomfort, then it may be beneficial to speak with your vet to discuss their condition and appropriate pain management going forwards.
