Jean has been showing dogs for nearly 40 years, with some great success such as winning the reserve C.C. at Crufts with a Belgian Shepherd and being the only owner to qualify a groenendael twice for the Pup of the year finals that were held in London.
10 years ago Jean bought her first Australian Shepherd, a red tri bitch that was to become her first champion and also the first Aussie with a tail to become a champion in this country. Sadly, Flame had to be spayed and was never able to have puppies. Jean bought a bitch to mate to Flames younger brother Jacob who she also owned, this mating produced a single puppy which she kept and named Senna (to keep with the Twilight theme as Jacob’s kc name is Ozzypool Jacob Black) her KC name is Jenkova Brite Lika Diamond.
Senna was quite successful in the show ring winning Best Puppy in Show and also Reserve Best In Show at Australian club shows, she also won a CC.
Jean had Senna health tested, which she came back fine in, so decided to mate her to a gorgeous dog from America. She knew quick that she was in whelp, she showed all the signs of being pregnant. Jean was looking for a good food for Senna to help produce well boned puppies and was recommended Skinners Field and Trial Puppy Food and Milk, little did she know she had 10 pups cooking!
Senna gave birth in 3 hours all by herself and had no other supplements other than Skinner’s Powdered Milk to help produce enough milk herself.
The pups were weaned onto Skinner’s Field & Trial Duck and Rice but she found it a bit too rich for them so changed to Lamb and Rice. Jean kept two bitches one of which is Secret, (Jenkova Dark Secret). At about 5 months old she put the girls onto Field and Trial Junior and they have never looked back- Jean’s dad always said you only get out what you put in!
Secret at her first open show went Best puppy in breed, best of breed, pastoral adult group 3rd, 1st pastoral puppy group and finished the day by going Reserve Best puppy in show, she finished her puppy career at the same show 6 months later with the same result. She won quite a few Best of Breeds and Best puppy in Breed while under 12 months also winning her puppy class at Crufts and then at 14 months at her first show as a junior (12-18 months) she was Best in Show!
Secret has only been to a few shows since then as she dropped her coat and came into season but did manage to win her class at Border Union Champ show and 2nd at Blackpool Ch. Show.
Senna, who is now fed on Skinner’s Muesli Mix has just come back into the ring this Summer winning limit bitch and Reserve best bitch at Australian Shepherd open show in July where Secret, totally out of coat, got 2nd in junior bitch.
10-year-old Flame who has a bad heart and had some mobility issues has been on Skinner’s Maintenance Plus for over a year now, and Jean saw a big difference in her mobility in just a few days.
